Muslim Council of Elders Strongly Condemns Storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Israel's Minister of National Security

06 April 2026

The Muslim Council of Elders, under the chairmanship of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar strongly condemns the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Minister of National Security of the Israel, under the protection of occupation forces. The Council affirms that this act constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and a blatant provocation of the feelings of Muslims around the world.

The Muslim Council of Elders underscores its categorical rejection of any attempts to undermine the existing religious, historical, and legal status quo of Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning of the serious repercussions that the continuation of such violations may have on security and stability in the region. The Council stresses that Al-Aqsa Mosque, in its entirety—covering an area of 144 dunams—is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims.

The Muslim Council of Elders calls upon the international community to shoulder its moral and legal responsibilities and to take immediate and decisive action to halt the repeated violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque, the city of Jerusalem, and its holy sites. The Council further urges the international community to ensure the protection of sacred places, safeguard freedom of worship, and immediately and urgently reopen Al-Aqsa Mosque to worshippers. It also calls for efforts toward achieving a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian cause, ending the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people for more than seven decades, and affirming their legitimate right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
