"Religion and Reason" at the Muslim Council of Elders' Pavilion in the Cairo International Book Fair 2024

The Muslim Council of Elders' pavilion at the Cairo International Book Fair 2024 presents the book "Religion and Reason" by Dr. Suleiman Dunia, one of the prominent scholars of Al-Azhar. The book addresses five vital life issues concerning the Muslim community, marking it as one of the latest releases by the Muslim Council of Elders.

"Religion is a system and a culture, a law and a science," with these words, the author initiates his message, providing a meticulous Azhari treatment of certain issues that were of interest to society at that time. The author notes that these messages are directed towards the youth of the Islamic community who might find some concepts confusing, face challenges due to their young age, lack clarity on the relationship between the essence of religion and the intellect, or fail to understand the wisdom behind certain systems, issues, and rulings of Sharia.

The book consists of five key messages. In the first one, the author addresses the primary issue of the book: the stance of religion towards reason. He then delves into social issues, elucidating the Islamic philosophy concerning them. The second message is dedicated to discussing the issue of slavery in Islam. The third tackles the topic of polygamy, emphasizing that Sharia did not impose this practice on its followers but provided it as a remedy in specific situations.

The fourth message discusses the issue of divorce, highlighting its legitimacy and explaining the reasons that may lead to it, along with the author's perspective on working towards minimizing its occurrence. The fifth and final message discusses the wisdom of establishing punishments for theft in Sharia, emphasizing that its purpose is to deter individuals from committing acts that threaten societal security and to safeguard both public and private property.

The Muslim Council of Elders' pavilion at the Cairo International Book Fair features a diverse collection of publications, along with a series of seminars, activities, and events focused on promoting the values of peace and mutual coexistence among all humanity.

The pavilion is located alongside the Al-Azhar pavilion in Hall 4 at the Egypt International Exhibition and Conference Center in the Fifth Settlement in Cairo.
